Snapchat Is A Waste Of Your Time. Here’s Why.

who should be on snapchat 300x500…soooooo many of my clients come to me complaining of the lack of traffic they’re getting to their websites.

Which doesn’t make sense because they spend upwards of 5 hours a day on social media so that should equal more traffic right?

WRONG.

Ugh, I hate to say it because I know it feels like the thing you “should” be doing and everyone’s always telling you that you better jump on the next big platform (Snapchat, anyone?) or else you’ll be left in the dust….

But it’s true.

And you come here for the truth right?

So is social media a complete waste of time?

No, of course not – I mean, I myself am on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so I’d be QUITE the hypocrite if I recommended shutting everything down and running far far away (though that can be tempting to do sometimes, can’t it?)

BUT social media is not the Traffic Answer.

Sure, social media can be great for engagement and branding and drips of traffic as you start to grow but unless you’re a powerhouse on one platform, you’re just plain not going to see the levels of traffic that you need to create a sustainable pipeline of leads and clients for your business.

So what to do instead?

SEO.

(aka search engine optimization aka getting more people to find you through the likes of Google)

I know – but don’t close that browser window just yet.

I know you think that SEO is hard.

I know you think that SEO is “beyond” you.

I know you think that SEO is simply too complicated for you.

And I’m telling you that you’ve been fed the wrong information.

It doesn’t have to be hard.

It doesn’t have to be complicated.

When you do it right, SEO can beat social media 800 times over.

In fact – don’t take my word for it:

Not only are there over 3 billion searches A DAY on Google, but:

On average, conversion rates are 10-15 times higher from search than from social. Perform Insider, 2015

[Tweet that.]

Which makes sense, when you think about it.

When you’re on social media, you’re “hanging out” not looking for things. When you’re on a search engine – you’re searching for answers / solutions.

Intent is huge when it comes to conversions.

So knowing that, do you think you’re better off spending an hour on social media? Or taking simple actions that could increase the traffic you’re getting from Google?

All that time on social media is just busy work distracting you from actions that could have a *much* bigger impact on your traffic & business.

You have my permission to just say no to the social media busywork “pandemic”

Because you have more important things to do.

Right?

that was the most sane post I’ve seen on snapchat – I call it marketing with invisible ink

Social media is the biggest traffic lie of all. There’s too many clicks involved for the person to go and get to “know” you on your own site, and why should she when the site serves up every possible thing like an all you can eat buffet.

Oh, and throw in the fact that no one on social media goes there to buy, and the intention as you point out are all wrong. Focus on the people who don’t know you and need you being able to find you, and use social media to stay at the top of their mind. SEO is not dead, and is under utilised.
