Stop Pretending You’re the CEO

small biz ceo running her biz from her laptopYou are not the CEO of your business

Or at least you don’t act like one.

I know you own your own business but I don’t think you’re the CEO you think you are.

When you think of a typical CEO workload do you think of…

  • creating graphics to share on social media?
  • researching hashtags?
  • reading blog posts about how snapchat works?
  • scheduling tweets?

My guess is you don’t.

But *you* do a lot of this.

When your daily schedule consists a lot of the above, you’re not the CEO of your business.

You’re the Intern.

And listen, I get it.

You feel like *someone* has to do this work.

Because you need more customers.

And spending so much time on social media is *supposed* to bring you more work.

But is it?

When you spend so much time on social media, you increase the chance you fall victim to shiny object syndrome

So instead of doing work that’ll *actually* get you clients, you spend hours jumping from one blog post to the next.

Spending hours trying to get business out of your 400 likes on Facebook or 300 followers on Twitter.

But that’s not real CEO work.

CEOs have time to set strategy.

CEOs have time and space to delegate.

CEOs stick to big picture.

But that’s almost impossible to do when you have to worry about where the next lead or customer is coming from.

And social media feels eaaaaasy, right?

Or at least easier than some of the other things you could do to bring in customers.

So you do it.

Because it doesn’t feel too hard and it makes you feel productive.

But busy does not equal productive.

busy does not equal productive

And maybe you’re afraid of the real work.

Because you don’t think you’re ready.

Or capable.

Or you feel like an impostor.

But if you’re ready to make your business work better for you – if you’re ready for your business to regularly generate leads and sales, social media is not the answer.

SEO is.

And it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Keep your eye on your inbox for news of a training next week that’ll help you un-complicate one of the best sources of traffic you can focus on for your business. You know, so you can get back to doing the CEO thing and less of the Intern thing.
